Old grain store (not in the mist!)
A bright cold and frosty morning followed by a fabulous day!
Worked this morning then had a phonecall from Russell who had lots of bags of manure if we were interested. We were - for this is the superior manure as produced by the horse formerly of the Aga Khan's stable (apparently!!) We collected the trailer from Steve (we bought it between three households) and went at a gentle pace up Russell's. He is renovating what was a completely dilapidated cottage on the side of a mountain. He has worked incredibly hard, done everything himself, and the family are ready to move in next week. He also mentioned that he has two old settles and some sinks going begging - I think we've come to an arrangement - I give his son Charlie some extra help learning-wise, and in exchange I get the settles. A good bit of bartering. We slung the manure into the trailer then found we couldnt turn round so had to go very slowly up the mountain and turn in a viewpoint - I was very glad himself was doing the manoeuvres!
Returned home and I took advantage of the sunshine to finally get the garlic planted and sweep up a ton of leaves that had descended over the last few days. A horse had evidently passed the top of our land - collected that too.
Arthouse tonight - I can't remember what the film is but it's French. I like French films. Yesterday's documentary on Morris Men was very good by the way - based on the Addenbury Morris from Oxfordshire the filmaker, a son of an ardent morris man, looked at their possible origins and what they mean today. Makes you want to get up and twiddle a few hankies!
Todays blip is the old grain store last seen in the mist. There were some fantastic reflections today as everywhere was so bright and still, I especially like the watercolourish trees. This imposing ruin used to house grain before it was shipped to Liverpool. During the Famine it is reputed to have housed orphan children. Now it stands empty, possibly home to a few owls.
