Crash!

So....yesterday (as I am back blipping) was an eventful day to say the least.

Having been to a funeral in the morning, I spent most of the afternoon at my friend's house. After a lovely meal, I set out on the hour long drive home. A very familiar route and despite the darkness, the rain and a few nutters on the road, I got home safely.....well....I got to our gate safely.

I stopped as usual to check the post box and lock the gate behind me, but then I remembered that I had checked for post on the way out and that it was bin day the following day so the gate had to stay open so we could bring the bin bags up later on.

A minor boring detail perhaps, but because of this my seatbelt stayed on.

I drove down our drive - it is more like a lane really. Obviously having lived here eight and a half years, I have driven down here thousands of times. This time didn't feel any different at all but somehow, the tyre maybe clipped something, went in a pothole or went over the edge of the tarmac maybe? I honestly don't know exactly what happened.

Whatever it was, it left me unable to steer the car the way I wanted to go and the next thing I remember I was being thrown in the air and the car flipped right over, crashing on to its roof. I vaguely remember trying to protect my head but it got hit pretty hard anyway. I also remember the sound and feel of the windscreen smashing.

Once it had come to rest I was hanging upside down in the seatbelt and I was trapped in the car, as the door had been squished. I beeped the horn for a few minutes hoping my husband would hear it from the house, but he didn't. I could see my phone just out of reach but managed to get to it to ring him. He then came round the corner and could just about make the smashed car in the complete darkness of the lane. I think he was a little shocked!

Once he figured out which way round the car was and which door he needed to get open to get to me, he did manage to get me out and helped me on a wobbly walk to the house. I wasn't feeling too bad at that point considering!

The ambulance came very quickly and as the two paramedics walked me to the ambulance (which couldn't get all the way to the house due to the car blocking the drive), that was when it hit me. Apparently my blood pressure went through the floor and I went into a faint, ending up on the ground. They helped me up and I had to sit on the underside of the car for ten minutes or so until I could walk the last few yards. It was such a relief to lie in the ambulance with oxygen and a bit of medical attention.

I think it amused them that despite the state I was in I was tapping away on my phone as I was most concerned that I let certain people know how I was! It was while doing this that I realised I didn't have a photo to blip for yesterday. Yes. I know. That really is madness isn't it. All I could do was a quick snap of me lying there in the ambulance so I apologise for this BUT I guess it really is a record of my day!!

The upshot is that after a couple of hours in hospital, I was sent home with cuts, bruises, a huge lump on my head and just a lot of sore bits. I have to watch for a few days for signs of head injury BUT I am OK. I was very lucky.

Next instalment is here! ;-)
