Early Birds

You thought that you were early
but someone's way ahead.
That's what can happen
when you have 5 extra minutes in bed.

And so it will not be you this misty morning
who swerves to avoid
ploughing into pigeons playing chicken.

It will not be you who comes face to face
with another early bird in a big truck.

Sometimes it's all a matter of timing
and bad, bad luck.
