Meetings and Partings
Mr G and I went for a drink at our local pub this afternoon.
As we sat by the cosy open fire, supping our ciders, I had time to reflect that my Dad died 8 years ago today.
The day he died I found the strength to attend Claire's Nursery Teacher appointment, much to the surprise of Claire's teacher, Rachel.
That evening there was the most amazing Northern Lights display which seem to shine above the house where he died.
Dad was 56 years old and he was one year into his retirement when his illness came on so suddenly, much to the shock of our family and friends.
He died within 4 weeks of being told he had cancer.
We've all been on a long life journey since then, so much has happened and there are now 3 more grandchildren that he never met.
But life goes on and that's the way it's meant to be.
Meetings and Partings.
The artist Ted Milligan, a POW in Stalag Luft 7, Bankau and one of the servicemen who trudged 240 km on the forced march to Stalag 3A at Luckenwalde, collaborated with Jon England, more than 60 years his junior to create this piece made out 5000 nails. It is displayed on the Montague Inn's wall.
