Salts Mill
Went to my favourite arty inspiration place, Salts Mill, today in Shipley. I never tire of going there and it was such a lovely sunny day too.
I wanted to get most of the mill in the picture as it's such a huge building. Now for the history lesson :
It was the biggest factory in the world when it opened in 1853 with 3,000 workers and 1,200 looms, producing 30,000 yards of cloth a day! Titus Salt wanted the mill to emulate a palazzo of the Italian Renaissance.
The mill was built to be fireproof, constructed entirely of locally sourced iron and stone. It is 6 storeys high and 550 feet long. The top gallery was for spinning and was the longest room of it's kind in the world, being the length of St Paul's Cathedral.
Today, it is a centre of art, showing David Hockney's pictures, cafes and shops. I like Hockney's pictures he has produced on the i-pad with the vibrant colours.
Today is my de-stress day and tomorrow is going to be my de-clutter at home day, with a quick outing to see what I might blip.
Happy Saturday everyone :)
