vada abditae

By TomS

I went for a walk this morning and spent a fair bit of time looking at the shapes in the mist and thinking about what is natural and what is artificial.

The mist is most definitely natural, but the trees have been bred and pruned to human tastes and even the lay of the ground is down to us. I suspect there is very little which is not to some degree artificial on this crowded island.

So here we have winter barley, offering premonition of spring on a chilly November morning. This is, in its way, more a impressive example of man conquering (invading?) nature than planes and tower blocks: here we manipulate not just gravity but the seasons themselves.

EDIT: I liked the thumbnail so much I have changed the crop on this image.
