Benidicto, the pest (specialist)!!
Anyone who has read about the farm will know that we almost never use chemical pesticides and are prepared to lose a crop until we get the formula right.
Benidicto is a real researcher and keeps trying different plants and varying combinations. We are lucky the we have a great ally in the fight, the plant trephosia. We use it with blue gum and more recently sisal and lemon grass.
Todays challenge came from spider mites and orange dog, I'm told, attacking the 5000 citrus seedlings.
Our formula has been improved by Chris from Zambia, in that we now pound, soak and strain, so that in 30 minutes we have the liquid on the plants, when it is most potent.
Convincing villagers is not so easy, in that they are sold on a list of noxious chemicals, the length of your arm, with some really serious stuff, all expensive and poisonous and just boosting the profits of a small number of transnational chemical giants.
I don't expect that our little effort will disturb then too much.
I expect that the orange dogs and spider mites are resting in peace by now!!!
