Lumiere.
LUMIERE meaning 'light.'
Up until now, the only time I have ever used the word ,was when talking about a Disney favourite -Lumiere, the candlestick from Beauty and the Beast.
Lumiere: "Ma chère mademoiselle, it is with deepest pride and greatest pleasure that we welcome you tonight. And now, we invite you to relax and let us pull you up a chair, as the dining room proudly presents... your dinner."
Well tonight , no chair was pulled up, no dinner was served but a scintillating light show was certainly a feast for our eyes. This evening, we visited Durham to see the Lumiere Festival, where many of the best artists and lighting designers from here in UK and further afield, come together to create a dazzling 'celebration of LIGHT', a spectacle , an enchanted world.
The cathedral was the 'crown of light' and included images of the Lindisfarne Gospel projected on to the many faces of the building ,while in the nave , cloisters and gardens, fire alchemist Compagnie Carabosse used scrap metal, flower pots and even cast off clothing to create a magical fire garden on a huge scale.
The photograph I have chosen to upload is of 'Les Voyageurs' by the French artist Cedric Borgne. His ethereal illuminated sculptures lead all the way along the South Bailey for those of you who know Durham.
Living with passion and a real purpose, is about doing what 'lights YOU up' and makes your heart skip a beat. It's NOT about money or material things, it's about something much more rare and precious. It's about shining your light in a way only YOU can in this world and being seen through the darkness that surrounds us all.
