Newhaven Station

This is one of those unexpected treasures that has always made me go "Oh Wow!"

Halfway up Craighall Road, this building used to be the Newhaven Station which opened in 1879 and closed in 1962, serving the Caledonian Railway on the Leith branch line.

It is a beautiful timber boarded construction that stands on cast iron columns, directly above the platform. The Royal Commission for Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland website has more information. I have linked to the historical views below if you'd rather see the pictures.

Until sometime before its restoration started, last summer, it used be a wood workshop. I believe, it is being turned into offices now. How lucky for those that might get to work in this place one day!
