Following on from the series of home blips sort of matching the blips from Cyprus, tonight's blip is the old Furnace down near the pier where the old harbour was once the centre of the village.
The iron ore furnace was built in 1755 in the village which at that time was known as Inbhirleaccan but gradually became known as Furnace because of the existence of the Furnace which brought more industry to the area. It's situation was perfect being close to the harbour with the old pier where the boats came in to transport the the iron. The furnace continued to be used until the mid 1800s . Until recently the black doors were open and it was possible to go in and see the old furnace chimney. Unfortunately as is the case these days, because of vandalism the doors are now kept locked.
I was very fortunate to get this blip early today as by 10 : 30 the sky changed and the gale came in , wet and windy outside , even Oscar refuses to venture beyond the garden.
The partner blip from one of the very ancient site on Paphos can be seen
