Voting

A local by-election in Hillhead today. You place the candidates in order of preference, specifying as many as you like, on a sheet that says, in large letters, DO NOT FOLD THE BALLOT PAPER.

The problem is, the slit in the ballot box is not actually large enough to accommodate the unfolded ballot paper, even on its short side. I look to the two women behind the desk. 'Just fold it once,' one of them suggests, with a cheeky wink.
