Don't Look Now!
This is the first of my backblips because we have been in Venice (!) to compete in the Venice Orienteering Street Race (yahey). We arrived this night very late, on the Alilaguna Water Bus from Marco Polo Airport, disembarking on the Fondamente Nove which is the northern end of the island and closest to our one star hotel the Casa Boccassini (Basic but clean and friendly).
The adventure began the minute we stepped off the boat. We are orienteers so finding our way around the maze of streets was not a problem, but turning down a sidestreet we thought, 'We wouldn't walk down this street at this time of night at home!' Absolutely no problems and lots of people out and about enjoying the uniqueness that is Venice.
Because we were so late, blipping was a problem but after a delicious meal at Antonio's restaurant round the corner from our hotel, we decided on a short first walk towards the Rialto to soak up the atmosphere. This particular canal became part of my personal legend because of its blue boat (together with the oven, the building site, the Clarks shop and the giant Nutella jars). We were to walk through here many times over the next few days but for tonight it was back to the hotel after a long day travelling from Manchester via Zurich, and to bed.
