Kilnsey Crag In The Mist
Back blipped for 13.11.11
Our B&B was adjacent to the village war memorial and we were warned that our cars could be hemmed in by the Rememberance Day service for an hour so we moved on early, but didn't go far.
There was a Flea Market held in the village hall and naturally we took a look. I think it was more antique market than flea, nobody was bargaining, but I did find a wee gift that S will like and Mr Flum bought a couple of cakes.
We were back into the car in time for the two minutes' silence as we watched a group of walkers pass by unconcerned. Neither of us is unfortunate enough to have anyone affected by warfare, past or present, our relatives were all in reserved occupations, but we appreciate the freedom that the sacrifice of others has brought.
We followed the River Wharfe upstream, past the great overhang of Kilnsey Crag, took a short walk in Kettlewell and continued to Hawes, stopping at the busy visitor centre at the Wensleydale creamery for lunch and, after sampling most, to stock up with a variety of cheeses.
Keeping away from the major roads until Penrith we found ourselves in sunshine for the first time in the entire trip and were even more delighted by a brief view of a murmuration of starlings as it flew over us, somewhere north of Carlisle.
Then it was home to be greeted on arival by an affectionate Bramble and an indifferent Hazel. And a pile of back blips to do.
