Hook
Went to see Andrea Arnold's adaptation/version/re-imagining/whateveryouwanttocall it of Wuthering Heights last night at The Cameo and it was pretty impressive in a cold, wet, stark kind of way. The movie that is, not The Cameo.
It's all presented in a quite brutal, unbeautiful manner but with some astonishing attention to detail and a total filmmaker's stamp on it. There's been a bit of criticism about Cathy and Heathcliff being played by different actors as children and adults but I had no problem with that aspect, it seemed to make sense, although I'm in complete agreement that the 'childhood' part of the film is far stronger than the 'adult' one. All that free spirited running around those Yorkshire moors with sexual tension underpinning everything, absorbing stuff. I've never read the novel so I don't know what's different, although some of Heathcliff's language certainly isn't the kind you'll have heard before in your standard BBC teatime adaptations.
