electric water mythology

day trip to hangzhou!
hangzhou is only ~2 1/2 hrs away from shanghai, but, due to issues with tire pressure, the bus trip there took over 5 hours.
although we didn't get to experience everything on the itinerary, we were still able to take a boat ride on hangzhou's famous west lake and see zhang yimou's choreography in the performance: impression west lake (where this photo was taken). the show included a gorgeous utilization of lighting and it was very original in the aspect that the performers were supposed give off the impression that they were running and dancing on water. (i assume that there is some sort of stage directly beneath the surface of the water.) the tire issue went unresolved, so instead of returning to shanghai at 10:30 pm, we made it back at 1 am.
