No Greater Love
No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends. (John 15:13)
Today was the first time I was leading a Remembrance Day service, and I've now led two! This morning we had the Royal British Legion parade to the war memorial (Cenotaph) in Brookeborough. A big crowd for such a small village gathered together, with the service led by the Methodist minister and myself (Church of Ireland). Wreaths were laid by Lord Brookeborough, the Royal Irish Regiment Association, the Police Service of Northern Ireland, the Guides and Scouts and the Girls' Friendly Society.
Afterwards, we had our morning service in Aghavea Parish Church, during which there was an Act of Remembrance. Five members of our parish were murdered during the 'Troubles' and wreaths were laid at the memorial in the church.
Jesus displays the greatest love as he have his life for us, dying so that we may live. We give thanks today, and every day, as it is meet and right so to do.
