Robin at large

Twyford Mainstreet

I lived in Twyford about a year a while ago. It is a village about 7 miles East of Reading. Several of the buildings look to be quite old, though many more will have been replaced by modern buildings.

The cream coloured building was butcher's shop when I was here. It was interesting in particular due to the hooks under the alcove in the street from which meat would have been hung for display.

Maybe eight years or so a supermarket arrived in the village. Although Waitrose is a good shop it had a devastating effect on the independent retailers in the village. Many of the shops that were here have closed and been converted to offices, and many seem to be estate agents now.

Twyford station is a commuter hot spot, and also connects with the Henley branch line.
