I'd planned to cycle up to a temple in the mountains for todays blip, that lies in one of my favourite parts of Gwangju. One of the great things about living in the downtown area though, is that there always seem to be blippable things going on. When I started this journal back in January I lived in a very different part of town. Good blipping opportunities were scarce and so i would resort to blipping little monsters the majority of the time.
As I rode out today though with the mountains in mind, I came across several graffiti artists at work. The blue fencing you can see is wrapped around a huge area where the council is building a giant 'Culture Complex', a building and outdoor space that will house all manner of interesting stuff but that is taking an eternity to build.
I still cycled up to the mountains, and it nearly killed me in the process. I'm so out of shape that I'll be doing a lot more cycling over the coming months - so I'll no doubt blip the temple another time.
It was the first time I've been up there on a weekend, I used to ride up every Tuesday as I had the afternoons off. Never have I seen so many people in one place, they were like lquid flowing down the paths and trails - most fully equipped in head to toe hiking gear and rucksacks, a lot also carrying ski poles. It's the trend in Korea to kit yourself out in top-of-the-range, very expensive kit.
I'm not sure what they thought of me in my T-shirt and shorts, the few Koreans strolling up in jeans or the occasional crazy young girls who select high heels as their climbing shoes of choice.
Off for ssambap with the missus tonight, a delicious dish of spicy meat and a million side dishes.
