Behind the Phoenix
Years ago the city of Duncan had two hotels across from each other, two streets separated by the railway track. Both hotels had a beer parlor. Drunken people sauntered between the two hotels. A tourist wrote a letter to the editor of our newspaper. She complained about the drunken folk of Duncan. Our town became known as Drunken Duncan.
The Tzouhalem Hotel was demolished and the Commercial Hotel burnt. The Commercial Hotel was replaced by the Phoenix. The photo was made behind the Phoenix.
