Salmon Run On Goldstream
We were traveling out of Sydney BC heading towards Parksville, when off to our right we passed the entrance to Goldstream Provincial Park. Then we started to see signs on the road that said salmon run parking! Before you could count to three I was yelling we have to go check this out, as I was grabbing for the camera!
Of course it was pouring rain, but we piled out of the car with umbrellas and made our way down to a stream lined with folks witnessing the final moments of literally thousands of salmon. They were laying their eggs, in amongst the thousands of seagulls eating the decaying carcasses! Then they died! It was truly the most amazing sight I have ever witnessed!
I am not sure this one picture depicts the scene, but it was the best...the lighting in the forest was dark and the birds were very active so many of the shots were blurred!
