Busy downtown

We are now witnessing the completion of a new business building in Ganges. It is a redevelopment of a site where before there was some small and derelict houses with small shops. When this project was announced, it created lots of fuss. The new ground floor shop will house our local branch of one of the major clothes shop chains. They are already here, but has grown out of their present site. Those who opposed these plans said that we don't need a bigger clothes shop on our small island, we need small shops that are interesting for the tourists. However, their petition was of no avail. The new shop will probably open before the end of the year.
