Ailsa Craig
Had a gorgeous drive out up the coast to Ayr on the last day of our trip to this part of Scotland.
It was a really beautiful drive helped by a sunny day. This island, Ailsa Craig, really inspired me to take a bunch of photos, so I was elated when the coach driver pulled over for people to look at a monument to something from WWII involving the Japanese. I wasn't listening too intently as I was wrapped up with the view of the island and spotting lots of seals on the rocks!
I've just googled it for more info and found out that the formation of Ailsa Craig is actually a volcanic plug atop a volcano that's likely to have been active about 500 million years ago. Love it!
We journeyed along a very interesting route today, regaled with stories of Robbie Burns and Sawney Bean...good times!
