Aughentaine Castle
This fortified house between Clogher and Fivemiletown doesn't have much going for it now - apart from the electricity supply (which was very frustrating for the photograph!). In the 1960s, stones from here were used to build a new church in Dromore, County Tyrone after a wall of the old one fell down (allegedly during Divine Worship).
Previously during World War Two, an American regiment, the 28th Field Artillery Battalion were stationed here en route to the continent.
In mentioning Fivemiletown I feel it necessary to point out that it's actually now six miles from Clogher to Fivemiletown - because Irish miles are longer than English miles!
