Mushroom Phone

This is a Western Electric model 500 P/U, commonly called a "mushroom" phone. It is rather rare. This one was made in August of 1959, about the time lighted Princess phones came on the scene. A switch in the front allows the light over the dial to be on but dim during non-use. When the receiver is picked up the light gets brighter allowing one to see the dial in the dark. The number card in the center of the clear plastic finger wheel reads ELiot 6-8733. It's my favorite phone---today.
