I am fascinated by the social demographics of motorway service station users. The people who use them, the people who use them a lot, are they a representative cross-section of society? Or are they quite different from everybody else? And - regardless of the answer to that question - why is it somehow OK to provide only cash machines that charge £1.99 for each transaction? And why so much Burger King? And why does the petrol have to be so bloody expensive?

Anyway, the times they are gradually a-changin' and it's now increasingly possible to get healthy-ish food at service stations if you go to the M&S bit. Here is my evening meal at Wetherby Services on the A1(M). Note all that Vitamin C.
