Power... less

I have the power - 9 volts of it... but I can't really can't after half an hour of trying I can't get the ruddy lid off the smoke alarm that is blipping every 2 mins to tell me the battery is dying... honestly it's like an audio form of water torture... in the night... just as I think I am asleep I hear it again....
