For about four years I have been trying to master a dish, which is in essence quite a simple one. I mean, lentils, garlic, onions, tomatoes and spices, what could possibly go wrong. This evening I was at last happy with my efforts and I would have paid for the tarka dhal that I made. This was an achievement and one which I will be reliving undoubtedly on many occasions.

While preparing the dish I was watching the number one son. He truly is a wondrous boy. At the moment he is big on cars, wandering round with two large vehicles, one in each hand. And what more does one need than a couple small cars to have a ride in the big cars.

As I left for work it was a bitter
