The Day The Earth Caught Fire.
North Edinburgh lies under a cold and evanescent shroud of haar that crept up the Forth with the sunrise.
The spectacle from my viewpoint was reminscent of a scene from Val Guest's epic 1961 black-and-white apocalyptic science fiction motion picture: meltwater from the Arctic causes the Thames to flood with a thick fog after twin atomic tests at the poles cause the Earth's orbit to shift inexorably toward the Sun, and the temperatures rise for both the characters and the planet.
