Remembrance

Stumbled across this little poppy field in Princes Street Gardens tonight (this photo was taken in the dark at 5pm on the sports setting!), with little plots for each letter. What a lovely idea. I have no idea whether or not I lost any relatives in either the first World War or any other war but having gone on a trip to the battlefields of WWI in France and Belgium on a school trip I have poignant memories of the vast plots of graves of the soldiers who lost their lives. When you're told the number of the dead from various wars it tends not to mean anything, but when you actually see the visible effects it makes a difference.

Anyway, I like the concept of this garden and always try to spend a little time being more conscious of the effects of war around this time of year.
