Blair Adam House

Whilst visiting friends in Maryburgh, we had a walk round the Blair Adam Estate. I had heard of Blair Adam House but had not seen it so was glad of the opportunity.

The house was built by architect William Adam (1689-1748) some three years after he acquired the Blair Crambeth estate, renaming it non too modestly Blair Adam. Adam was quite the entrepreneur and among the activities on the estate was coal mining and he built the village of Maryburgh to house the miners. Though he built Blair Adam House for his family, Adam rarely stayed there, spending most of his time in Edinburgh.

Blair Adam remains in the Adam family today and part of it is now an upmarket B&B.
