OOOh!

We have always bought sparklers for the children. Such a simple little thing and yet each year they bring my simple little things such joy! I see in their faces the same look they had at 3, 5, 8, and 12.

We used ours tonight as my girl wasn't with us yesterday and she would not have been pleased if we had 'sparkled' without her. We are joined by Balder and it was he who devised the circles. My boy thinks he is the same height as his friend, clearly not in this shot. I am slightly relieved that Balder will be going home tomorrow. Not because he has been difficult. He has been a dream house guest saying and doing all the right things. I am a little concerned however at how he is sleeping, curled up in the bottom single bunk!! He will go home with a slight curvature of the spine and a few good Scottish phrases to add to his almost perfect English.

My boy's face today was that awful jaundiced colour a bruise goes when it's on the way out - so imagine my surprise when I returned after his football game to find that they had won, and he had made a last minute tackle to save a draw. His opponent however had landed with his big boney shoulder right on his eye. We are back with the ice and arnica and the bruising is back to black!
