Honeysuckle and nostalgia
The fragrant honeysuckle flowers of summer have now been replaced by the vivid fruits of autumn.
Honeysuckle is one of the 38 plants used in Dr Edward Bach's system of homeopathic medicine. In the early 1930s Dr Bach had prepared and tested thousands of plants, discovering by trial and error the remedies he wanted. Each plant that he used was aimed at a particular mental state or emotion. He claimed that when he treated the personalities and feelings of his patients their unhappiness and physical distress would be alleviated naturally as the healing potential in their bodies was unblocked and allowed to work once more.
Each remedy is associated with a basic human emotion. Mimulus, for example, is used to control fear; fear of public speaking, of the dark, of aggressive dogs etc. Honeysuckle, on the other hand is for the use of people who live in the past instead of the present. People who feel that their best days are behind them and that there is little to look forward to, and as a consequence they prefer to dwell on past happinesses (or past misfortunes).
It's all very interesting but I am afraid that I am a devout non-believer when it comes to all things homeopathic.
