Rage against the dying of the light

I met up with the gang (Mel, Helen and Amanda) to watch the firework display in Sefton Park tonight followed by chilli and baked potatoes at Helen's place. An enjoyable time was had by all!

No effigies were burned during the course of the evening I'm pleased to say. To me, bonfires and fireworks link back to seasonal pagan rituals more than to dubious sectarian disputes. In fact, come to think of it, I haven't seen an effigy of Guy Fawkes on a bonfire for a few years now (although I've noticed some of the Occupy protesters have been sporting Guy Fawkes masks...) Is this because Halloween has usurped Bonfire Night in the national calendar/psyche?

I rather liked this shot of Jackson Pollock style fireworks glimpsed from behind a tree.
