Echinacea purpurea
Last summer, I worked on a field study (the 12th year of the study) looking at how the flowering time and distance between flowers affected herbivory, seed production, and time-to-pollenation. That was on Echinacea angustifolia, a relative of the not-yet-blooming Echinacea purpurea seen here. E. angustifolia grows in the northern ranges of the US and southern Canada, while E. purpurea flourishes from there south though at least Kentucky, if not further.
