Greek Tablecloth Detail
This is part of a tablecloth my mother was induced to buy in Greece, as we walked through a village, maybe in Crete, about fifteen years ago. Handmade of cotton, I knew my mother would find no use for it and I told her not to buy it, but the Greek woman implored her more effectively. My mother just recently sent this to me and I have hung it in my window. With the Greek debt crisis much in the news, somehow this handicraft seems symbolic. Isn't Greece archaic and seemingly irrelevant, except for how it seduces us with our past? How much is that worth?
