Apples

Daughter #2 went camping in North Carolina this weekend, and also apple picking. She brought back Staymans and Fiji apples, and shared some of them with us tonight.

We had them with thinly sliced white cheddar, and some dried figs.

But before that, this visual composition...

It is getting decidedly colder as the days hurtle more surely toward the end of the year.

The apples, their crisp cold flesh so quick to bruise, and tart underneath their russet skins, remind us of sweetness we'll take to winter in our core.

On another note--- It is exhilarating to think I am 17 days away from having done a full calendar year of writing (at least) a poem a day at Dave Bonta's Via Negativa site!

I've met so many creative collaborators and new friends since then. A while ago, I described my process at Marly Youmans' The Palace at 2 am. I hope you'll stop by to read some poems, and enjoy the other posts at Dave's fine blog.
