Choices are horrid!
I've been off work looking after my daughter today, who is supposed to be ill. Does she look ill to you?!
She seemed genuinely poorly first thing. As she lay groaning on the settee I rang my work and her nursery and made the necessary arrangements. 'Oh well', I thought, at least I could use the day to get on with stuff I don't usually get time for - in between tending to her every need of course. However, within about half an hour she was running up and down whooping and shouting!
It seemed too complicated to rearrange everything so we've had a really nice day doing stuff together. Good to have this time before the new baby arrives. We've just made some salt dough models and cooked them in the oven. Earlier on we played some games on the computer. She's not used a computer much but even so I reckon there's probably not long to go before her knowlege of them surpasses mine!
She went on to watch some episodes of The Little Princess on there. I overheard the Little Princess remarking that, 'Choices are horrid, because you have to unchoose everything else!' - which I thought was a nice pearl of wisdom. I agree, making decisions is horrible. And there's too much choice in our consumer capitalist society! And having 'choice' in our public services has been used for years as an excuse for privatisation! But you know you've had too much time on your hands when you start over-analysing childrens' TV.
However, I am pleased that the choice was made for me not to go to work today!
