Santa Barbara

We left early this morning en route to reach Los Angeles. Shortly after leaving the campgroung, the road got a lot better and we could raise our average speed significantly.

After visiting an elephant-seals colony and passing by the Hearst Castle, we stopped at a MacDonald to get internet access and plan our next few days with reservations and routes.

We arrive in Santa Barbara around 1pm and it was really a "coup de coeur" for both of us. We ended up spending almost 4 hours there, including a great lunch at Moby Dick on the local pier (the oldest wooden pier on the west coast).

We finally reached Los Angeles around 7pm and went directly to Venice Boardwalk. Unfortunately, we were told by a local storeowner that we shouldn't go there after dark. To be honest, the place looked very shabby indeed with lots of strange looking folks.

Having read somwhere that there was an RV Park in Long Beach (right in the city!), we drove the 35 or so km to find the gate closed. As we were leaving, the owner came out and had vacancies.

I have never seen so many cars in the space of 2 hours. You can crisscross the city on beautiful freeways (10-12 lanes wide) with extraordinary indications.

Tomorrow we're heading to Las Vegas...
