6 dollars and 5 hours later...

What a nice surprise. A six dollar check in the mail for jury duty summons back in September. And it comes from the "jury duty fund". Is that the fund used to buy jurors lunch and coffee and such? Is this the leftover divided amongst the rest of us who were there and didn't get picked?

Jury selection is such a silly process. The questions they ask are an attempt to pinpoint biases by learning about your belief in this and that. Like, "do you believe in those detective shows like CSI and that all cases should have DNA evidence involved" or "what does 'beyond reasonable doubt' mean to you?".

Not to mention they only end up picking from the first 20 people who weren't blackmarked off the list from their strong opinions about the subject matter of the crime allegedly committed. But is it really necessary to have over a hundred people waste their morning? Do you really think you are getting a random sample anyways? Besides, the lawyers are picking jurors who will be on their side just enough, not jurors who will be objective.

Anyways, 6 buckaroos. Almost minimum wage.


Note: I am not harping that we have this system, but how ineffective and biased it is. I'm not entirely sure "innocent until proven guilty" is really the case.
