Fall colour

We don't have many maples here in the south of France but we do have plenty of vines. I don't know why it should have come as a surprise to me to discover that the leaves of each grape variety should turn a different colour in the autumn, but they do. Deep reds, gold, citrus yellows, deep purple, umber, orange and the occasional smile-widening flash of fuschia. The whole countryside truly is a patchwork of autumn colour. I call it horizontal fall, and very beautiful it is too.
