Gone Fishing!
The sun set over the metropolis of Teddington down by the lock. A warmish late Autumn evening preceded by a pleasant afternoon sitting on the jetty, contemplating the world going by, not really caring if the fish are biting, if your boss has missed you at work, if you switched the oven off after cooking yourself your fry-up brunch to line your stomach for your days outing.
In fact, you can sit peacefully on the river dreaming, wasting away the day, admiring the glorious autumn colours basking in the diffused rays of the sinking sun, letting everything drift out of your mind, including what time high tide is.....
....after all, you're safe and sound on a jetty and there's a walkway back to the riverside....yes there is....up to 4pm!!!
We laughed! A bit disingenuous maybe. But he saw the funny side too. He stood looking at it for quite a while, we guessed trying to work out if it was worth waiting for the tide to go out. We suggested he just went back to fishing, but part of the amusement was that he had painstakingly packed away all his gear and hadn't even notice his predicament until he started to come down the walkway towards us.
He was 30/40 feet away from us, so we didn't hear him say anything over our giggling, but you just know there was that moment of realisation when he mumbled to himself..."Ah!?....now that's a problem!"
Eventually, he took the plunge. Cheers all round. Must have been an uncomfortable ride home! But hey, what a day!
