What is this?

I haven't had a chance to dig out my field guides, so I was hoping someone knows. Each flower is subtended by two clasping to perfoliate leaves (bracts?) and 2 growths with flowers on them that have the same structure, kinda like a fractal. The flower appears to be 5merous with 6 carpels. I think the yellow things are weird petals, while the sepals remain somewhat closed.

What the hell is this weirdo plant?
