Thortonloch Bay and Torness Nuclear
The last day of our Geology trip today, and the last one this semester, so a nice sigh of relief. Had an extra hour of sleep this morning too which was welcome.
Headed to Thorntonloch bay first to look at the succession of rocks here - which show the transition of the area from a deltaic environment to a shallow sea. In the shallow sea area you can clearly see fossilised coral and shells, and in the deltaic rock burrows of worms and roots from plants. Nice to see examples in the rock that you can find yourself, rather than being given examples in the lab.
Didn't have enough lunch so once we got back to Edinburgh I managed to eat a whole bag of liquorice allsorts on the 10 minute journey via Sainsbury's... Not too long to wait before we're all cooking a roast though.
The photo is looking approximately NW to Torness power station. This is an amazingly ugly building, but I really like how it is completely contrasting to it's surroundings. I may have to go back at some point for some more shots, and investigate the cement works near Dunbar which looks amazing - although again, amazingly ugly.
