Londonderry's Legacy
About a hundred years ago the Londonderry family plundered the East Durham coast for coal.
Their 21st Century legacy was a barren polluted stretch of coastline where no living thing could survive.
They made pots of money and moved on.
Thanks to public money in the form of a project called Turning the Tide, and latterly the Durham Heritage Coast, life is returning, albeit tentatively, to the beaches.
There is a barren beauty in the desolation.
Watching nature reclaim her own is satisfying too.
It was the last day of the half term holidays today and the weather was magnificent - so I packed my watercolours and enjoyed the view.
Sunday evenings are always hard - thoughts come tumbling in of what I was meant to do for work....
