Time to fly
It's almost as if they know the clocks went back an hour last night. This morning, there were dozens of goldfinches congregating on the trees around us, twittering away as they do (#goldfinch) ;).
I reckon they have made their way down East Anglia overnight and had stopped for a quick snack before heading over the sea to Kent and then onwards to SW France, Spain and Morocco for their winter holidays.
EDIT: Academic point, but have reassessed this and realise with the 'warm' winds being as they are, these birds may well have come from the continent!
They are one of the prettiest and brightly coloured birds to be found in the UK and I like them a lot. With today's very overcast sky and their reluctance to come down and pose for me, I thought the negative tone curve probably does them more justice than the positive picture did!
Well it's almost halloween. Groan.
