A thriving fishing port
We're on the home leg now, and I'm blipping from the ferry queue in Larne. Oh dear. What a depressing place - no cups of coffee to be had anywhere. We were reduced to buying pork pies and coca cola in Asda and eating them in the car.
Meanwhile, having managed on a very small scale map of Ireland for two days we finally managed to procure a large scale map allowing us to circumnavigate the Ards peninsula this morning before heading for the ferry. Two things of note, apart from the generally scenic character of the landscape and seascape: first the numbers of individual cyclists and cycle clubs out for their Sunday morning rides. Second, the amount of religious and 'community' bigotry on show, which we both find intensely depressing.
Portavogie seems a generally thriving fishing port, except that some dimwit thought they should promote lots of 'development opportunities'. Result? Lots of half finished houses and empty plots which gives it a possibly undeserved depressed outlook.
It's been an interesting weekend. It'll take quite a while to digest the results.
