Whale watching on the breakwall - Mother and Baby.
Very exciting- and unusual to see them in so close - quite a way inside the bar between the two breakwalls and it was such a perfect morning.
I had Miss 4 with me and it was a bit hard to watch she didn't launch herself over the edge of the wall (hugh drop to the ocean below), whilst trying to snap the whales as they surfaced and focus etc at the same time. Interesting exercise:) I picked this shot as, if you look at it in large, you can just see the baby whale beside mum as well.
Mr 1 missed out - he was in disgrace! Started out when his Poppy and mate took the boat out to go fishing about 8.30 am. We foolishly took the kids to the boat ramp to watch them launch the boat. Mr 1, who has become very attached to his Poppy, was distraught that he was being left behind. We settled that down, headed home, and then they rang to say they had seen the whales in the entrance as they headed out to sea. My daughter and I quickly bundled the kids into the car and headed into the beach. All was going well until as we got out onto the wall. Mr 1 spotted a similar boat to Poppy's, also with two men in it, fishing near the wall. Of course he thought it was his Poppy. Well, he tried to throw himself out of his mum's arms and would have thrown himself down the wall and into the water I'm sure, in an attempt to get into that boat! He had to be taken back to the car in disgrace - while Miss 4 and I carried on:) I'm sure grandparents out there will know why I'm smiling.
