Beef on a skewer
Initially we had wanted to go on a walking tour today but due to clouds hanging rather low affecting the overall visibility we decided to postpone the hike and check out a different part of the island instead.
On the way to the middle of the island we drove past this small village which was all decorated and smoke was rising everywhere. Out of curiosity we stopped and walked around to see everything being prepared for a village festivity.
What impressed us most were all those stands that had loads of raw meet hanging around, beef to be exact. And not just a little bit, but literally four half cows. Next to these stands grills were put up where you could grill your own food. First we weren't sure on how things worked but once we decided upon a stand we asked for one espetada only for the guy to walk up to the beef, cutting off a huge piece which he then put on this huge wooden skewer. We also got some home made garlic bread to go with it. It was delicious and definitely made up for the not so great weather!
