Someone else was talking about an all-time favourite hip hop tune today and it ties in with today's journal, featuring as it does one of my all-time favourite hip hop tunes (ATFHHT).

I saw the movie that this track comes from back in my Sheffield days, I can distinctly remember going along one Friday lunchtime to catch it on the day of release and being pretty impressed with both the film itself and the terrific soundtrack.

And then years later the track would surface in perhaps my favourite film of the last few years, a film that completely wowed me. It was so good that I had to see it twice, if you've never seen it then you're in for a treat, it's one of those films that completely immerses you in the characters' world and features some breathtakingly natural perfomances, especially from the young girl who takes the lead role. I'll say no more, surprise is everything.

[Note: There's a whole bunch of other stuff involved with this as well involving independent Sheffield cinema in the 1980s, the legendary hole-in-the-road, scanned in ticket stubs and the coining of the term 'Nothern Soul' but I think I'll come to that in the future. It does all make sense, but for another day...]
