Perfect autumn

It has been a perfect autumn day.

The sounds of the countryside filled the air, with numerous skylarks singing their hearts out in the early morning sun, and the more distant mewing of buzzards.

Thick milky mist filled the valley while the sun shone on the beech wood at the top of the hill.

The day has been punctuated by the mournful sound of the cows calling to their calves, that have been weaned and moved to a field on the other side of the farm. It usually continues for about three days and nights, poor things.

So many pictures to choose from on the morning dog walk, but this one, looking up through the beech trees reminds me of the rich colours of fruit gums.
